Description:
"People are the problem, but people are the solution, too," I.P. said wisely. Children will learn, although humans create the problem of litter in the environment, they can be the solution as well. This book is the first of a proposed series that will explore environmental & preservation issues concerning the Chesapeake Bay. Cavu & Italian Princess, two mallards, are ready to explore the Bay, but are shocked to find that Cavu's mother is entrapped in a six-pack holder which could mean her death! She must be freed before they leave. Her rescue comes from a surprise source. The story underlines interdependence of humans & their fragile earth. Although the content is an upper elementary reading level, it is an enjoyable read-to story for younger children. Adults who have connections to the Bay also enjoy the antics of the ducks, & will quickly recognize the names of favorite anchorages. "The Cracker Crumb Rescue" provides diverse opportunities for interdisciplinary & theme units. "What a delightful demonstration of how real writers naturally integrate across the curriculum," writes Anna O'Toole, Language Arts Specialist of Chesterfield County, Virginia. Janet Keith, Language Arts Director, of Chesterfield adds, "This is wonderful! Let me know where I can purchase one -- it goes so well with our science program."
