Hi everyone, I have one novel that I'm just about done with before I go into the editing part. I'm also working on a new novel. I have a few questions on Createspace.com. I'm working on both novels to try and get in print with Permuted Press. The first one is a Zombie novel, the second one I'm at the point to I go Zombie or do I go with something different for me in writing and do an Apocalypse novel and then maybe do a twist in it as well. I wanted to know if they have editors? How trust worthy are they? Do I get to design my own cover? Is this the best self publisher to deal with? I guess if anyone has used them or know of someone who has tell me what the experince was like. Thanks everyone.

If you're going with Permuted Press, you want to send them your manuscript as an electronic document per their submission guidelines. I wouldn't publish anything with CreateSpace that you intend to send to them. Don't even mention CreateSpace or any other type of self publishing. They do consider previously published stories, but I'd wait. They have a really quick turn around time for letting you know whether they want to ahead with your story or not. Once your story is as tight as you want it, go ahead and submit them (one at a time) - "Permuted Press is now accepting queries for novel length horror, science fiction, and speculative fiction. FWIW, you should not have to pay for editing services. Authors don't pay, they get paid. Only if you choose to self publish, would that be an issue. Even then, you'd do just as well if you're in a great writing/editing group that has an English prof or MFA student as a member. You can also join an online peer editing group at www.absolutewrite.com/forums/ To answer your other questions: with Createspace you'll make your own cover. With Permuted Press, their marketing deparment will take care of it. In terms of self publishers: CreateSpace and Lulu are pretty straight forward. I've used them to create family booklets and private pieces without any problems. Anyway, good luck and congrats on nearing completing on your story!! |

I agree with PL. Try getting it published through Permuted Press first. As once you use createspace you limit your options if you ever wanted to use another publishing company for that story. Basically Createspace should be last option after everything else has been exhusted, because you will be the one having to promote, design the covers and make sure its sent into get reviews. |
