Debbie Macomber has a website and she put out a newsletter each month that has crocheted or knitted patterns on it.  This time it is a crocheted bucket tote bag.  Also had some pretty good recipes on there.

I love to crochet!  I'm currently working on a large afghan and have plans for several smaller ones for children's Christmas presents.

I have made many scarves. My grandmother and I worked on making newborn hats, mittens and booties and we donated them to the babies that were born prematurely at our local hospital. We also made camo hats for the soldiers, the kind that just fit under the helmet and donated all those. My Girl Scout troop just held a blanket drive for orphans called "Knitting for Kids" (even though most were crotched), We collected 142 blankets in all! I enjoy making doilies because they can be small quick summer day projects and they're pretty too!

Hi Lena,

Have you found any books? Sorry, I don't have any basic books for you. What about doing an online search and just printing out a few pages of instructions? I just used Google and found a bunch of how-to sites.

I love to crochet, and have for almost 40 years, right nowI am working on a table cloth with the pineapple pattern.  I prefer the bedspread cotton, but also enjoy the heavy yarns.

I taught myself from the First Steps In Crochet booklet by the American School of Needlework.  Easy, step-by-step instruction with clear, easy-to-follow pictures.  I only know two stitches tho but it works for now.

I'm working on afghan squares relative to the Crochet Buddies thread under the Club Members Thoughts forum.  I have odd leftover scraps of yarn, odd leftover scraps of time, and a tired, leftover brain... 7 x 9 inch squares are about all I can handle right now.  I can't believe I used to have the time & energy to concentrate on those complicated thread doilies.  They are lovely though.

Whats a good beginners project? I sorta learned the basics when I was a kid but I dont get much further than a really long chain. I wanna make scarves for my nieces for Christmas. I got some nice verigated yarn on clearance today and a basic book and one needle. The book doesnt show how to put all the steps together it just shows the basic stitches.

I'm working on Hats, scrafs and also a graph afghan for the ronald McDonald house to raffle.

Someone just sent me a pattern for a angel wrap . I plan to make them for Rainbows baby and children hospital. They are small wraps that are shaped like angels. the hospitals use them to wrap stillborns in before giviing the baby to see. Than the parents have the option of keeping the angel for a keepsake.

I'm also hooked on crocheting 8-)  Currently working on an afghan for my neph for his November birthday...hopefully I get it done in time...considering how much time I spend readin' the forums!  I crochet doilies too...aside from giving them as gifts, what else do you ladies do with all your doilies? Is there a market for doilies anymore? Can I/we make any money making doilies?

I am so excited to see this forum!  I love to crochet.  I've been hooked for a couple years now and my husband laughs at how excited I get at the local yarn stores.  I am currently working on a lap blanket and starting up on some scarves.  Soon I want to try a pattern for a poncho.  It will be my first step into not working flat (i.e. blankets, scarves).  It hasn't snowed much here yet but I hear that it gets really cold. So I look forward to long days curled up with a blanket on my lap.

Hey, I've been looking for an afghan pattern for awhile and was wondering if anybody has it. It was on the back of a magazine called: Crochet Fantasy Afghans. The issue was February 2001 Number 147. the lady was from Manitoba, Canada. I tried to get the pattern on here for you to see, but couldn't. If you find the pattern could you please send the pattern and the picture to oldwomankid3@accessatc.net

the afghan has a pattern that has roses and leaves in a white panels, with a burgandy panels alternated.  Has some pink in the roses.

Thanks to anybody who can help!

Oldwomankid3 :-)

Another hooker here! ;-D

My grandmother taught me to crochet a few years ago, and I absolutely love it.  I was doing a lot of embroidery at the time, but with little kids, I was afraid of needles getting out and in the clutches of a wee one.  Plus, if some of my crochet comes undone, you just redo it, no biggie.  My husband gets a little annoyed at all of the yarn strewn all over our house, but most of the time he's pretty understanding.

I have a blog where I (infrequently!) post my most recent projects.  You can check that out here.  Right now I'm mostly working on some small things (hats & dishclothes) for some upcoming craft shows.

I started out making doilies but have moved on to crocheting afghans.  Have made several ponchos have some pictures on Lions Brand gallery called Ponchos of many colors.  Always looking for something different to make in afghans and such.  Have knitted so far just a couple of scarfs and dish cloths.  Am working on a baby afghan right now in crochet called Pound of Love pattern on Lion Brands page.  Its a pretty easy afghan that just uses the single and double crochet stitches and makes up very pretty.  Hey you gals I would love to see some pictures!  Big mama I enjoyed looking at your site and will check it out again soon.  Jody

I have recently taught myself to crochet, so I've made a baby blanket for a friend and lots of scarves.  I've been trying to understand the granny square/working in the round, but for some reason, when I join up the circle I get a giant hole.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong? :)  Any help's greatly appreciated. :)

Lisa

I've recently taken up crocheting again...learned some 30 years ago and just started back a few months ago...made several of the scarves with the fringe/feathery yarn, then recently completed a baby blanket.  Just started making baby booties and caps and will be donating them to Texas Children's Hospital for the babies there.  They need lots of the preemie ones so those are pretty quick to make....lots of fun and benefit to others.
