I joined last February so this will my first holiday season with PBS.  I was wondering if I need to expect the length of time for a book to get to its destination to be longer.

I think the PO is already beefing their service up.  On sat a PBSer  mailed my book from MA and it arrived today (Mon) in UT.  Now that's quick!

With MM probably.  MM is sent on a space available basis.  First class shouldn't take too much longer but you never know. I have a couple that are past a week now and usually even w/MM they get there within a week. But then a book I dropped in the blue box on Th afternoon was there by Sat going first class.  It went from WA to FL in 2days.
