Exhausted by days of demanding labor,
I meekly return to the hospital
I marched out of several days before,
insisting, "Not yet, not yet!"

As if it is mine alone,
I am brought to the same bed in the same room
where three years earlier, almost to the day,
my body strained to bring forth my first child.

Four hours later I have barely enough strength
to murmur, "I am so tired,"
knowing I have said it before,
more than several times.

How many times did I think it, say it, feel it
during the following five hours, until
finally, two tiny translucent
miniature mes are born...identical twins.

Nurses cheering, doctors shouting with surprise,
and all I can think of is,
"There I go repeating myself again."
