This is a beautifully illustrated book by Jan Brett. The story is about a little Chinese girl Mei Mei who lives in a house by the Li River in China and who loves her pet hens. The other hens are mean to Daisy and Daisy leaves and falls asleep floating down the river. A man sees Daisy asleep in the basket and grabs the basket that Mei Mei has woven which says Happy Hens in Chinese. Will Mei Mei be able to rescue Daisy before she is sold for someone's dinner. This is an excellent story about love and acceptance for those who are different than us.
