I really enjoyed The Damnation Affair, but have mixed feelings about it.
The story was:

Riveting AND hard to follow.
Full of description AND clear as mud
Interesting to read AND bang your head frustrating

All at the same time

I wish Ms. Saintcrow had included a glossary of terms. She created a unique paranormal landscape and dropped the reader right into it without a primer so to speak. It took me a while to figure out the meaning of some of the terms which made it difficult to immerse myself in the story.

On the other hand by not frontloading terms and particulars the action starts right away and you get a feel for the characters and the story right off the bat. Once I got into the story I couldn't put it down. And had a really big laugh at the end, when I realized half of what I KNEW about the story turned out to be absolutely wrong, and I didn't care at all.
