I always enjoy Max and Annie Darling's adventures and the author does a good job to keep you involved.

Annie owns a mystery bookstore on a charming island off the Carolina shore. Max, her husband, operates an investigating company.

This is the latest in the Death on Demand series, and it follows pretty much the same format as the others - including familiar characters from former books. I thrill at the constant mention of famous mystery writers to see what ones I have read or ones I would like to try.

This is a fun read and keeps you wondering until the end. If you have read any of the prior issues of this series, be sure to get this one. You will not be disappointed.

She came in the rain. Alone. On a bicycle.â These are the words that start a chain reaction of diabolic events on the quaint little seaside island, Broward's Rock, where Max and Annie Darling reside in their much-loved Franklin house.

Because of worrisome repair work to their home, Max and Annie have had to take up temporary residence in a modern cabin and move their long-planned picnic party to the harbor pavilion. Not being natives to the island, they are unaware of the troublesome and upsetting past that the pavilion holds for so many of the island's residents.

The usually blissful inhabitants of Broward's Rock are feeling the strain of this new arrival, the tragic party setting and all that it could mean, especially for the murderer hiding among them.

One by one, disturbing events begin to take place making things cloudier rather than clearer for Annie. Her instincts beckon for answers and she gives forth great effort to let the authorities do the investigating, but when she and Max are nearly killed in a horrific fire that was definitely no accident, things get too personal for that. Will she discover the truth to both the past and the present before it's too late?

I found the complicated web of suspects and unpredictable characters that litter this Death on Demand series mystery by Carolyn Hart most enjoyable. I particularly took pleasure in those characters that brought a bit of levity to the mix. Peppered throughout Dare to Die are the names of other authors along with the titles of their books.

What a delightful tribute Carolyn Hart has given them. To me, this speaks volumes to the caliber of author that she is.

Another solid addition to a good series. Max and Annie Darling are having a party to celebrate the opening of their restored antebellum mansion, but delays in the construction have forced them to have the celebration in the pavilion nearby. Unknown to them, it is the location of a death 10 years ago, and among their guests are all the friends involved, including Iris, who had disappeared after that fateful event and is now back to try to recover her memory and make amends for her transgressions. When she is found strangled, the old case is re-opened as it now becomes obvious it was murder instead of an accident, or there would have been no reason to kill Iris. Who among their friends is responsible? Max is reluctant to get involved but when an attempt is made on their lives he realizes they have no choice but to help catch a killer.

This series has been solid over the years, and Max and Annie and all their friends as entertaining as ever.
