Dark Embers is one of those books that sounds like it'll be really really good...and then doesn't deliver.

The writing was well done, it's the story that made this impossible to like: The first few pages were promising then it pretty much turns into a sex fest....Literally almost every few pages there's another sex scene...and while I like my books steamy, when said steam takes over and leaves little to no room for any story...or characterization... or world building just reading it becomes a chore. After awhile those sex scenes just became boring...and the story doesn't even start to get interesting until the last 30 pages when stuff (i.e not sex) actually happens...and even then it's all pretty predictable...

so if you're looking for constant sex with little to no plot, then this is for you! Otherwise you're probably better off skipping this one.

I loved this book. It was a rather quick paranormal erotica. It was hot and steamy and had a plot to go along with it. Dylan needs help, he is the king of his dragon clan and they have a huge problem. Members of his clan are becoming sick with an illness and never before in all these years of existence have they been vulnerable to illness. Dylan goes to Phoebe for help with the disease as she is a biochemist working at Harvard on a cure for lupus. Phoebe agrees to go back to New Mexico with him to work on the disease. Phoebe however is not telling Dylan the whole truth she is keeping secrets that she buried long ago. They both feel an uncontrollable desire toward one another but neither one thinks it is right to act on it. It was a great set up of what I'm assuming will become a great series.

This book did start out well, but I agree with the other reviewer in that the sex scenes got quite repetitive... to the point where I was actually skimming most of them to get back to the story. I think that the story itself was interesting, and I would have liked to have seen more about the dragons and their world.
The author completely drops the ball at the end too. The hero actually thinks to himself, "Well, we haven't yet found a cure for the disease, and we've just started a war with another clan, but I'm not going to think about any of that right now. I'm just going to focus on you." I would think that the king of the dragons should be more worried about those two things than about "getting himself a little"...
There's a sequel coming out for this one, but I hope the author will give us a little more story next time. It could be good if she'd focus more on the actual dragons.

A different take on Dragon shifters. Liked the world building.

Don't waste your time. This book is ridiculously stupid.
