I feel like I have to gather up the whole series and reread it again because almost everything happens concurrently. Makes you feel a little bit like Nix the ever knowing.

Regardless it was a great read. I loved the transition of Thronos. It definitely didn't happen overnight which I appreciated. Again I really liked that Cole doesn't change her characters to make them more likeable. Lanthe wasn't exactly a kick-butt girl in the previous books and even though it would have been helpful if she was here, Cole stayed true to her previous versions of Lanthe. Instead Lanthe's strengths came in different ways and she definitely was a survivor.

There were a few laugh out loud moments, a few "harrrgh" frustrating ones, and some very touch sweet ones. Loved it.

Make sure you have read Shadow's Claim and Lothaire recently. There were a number of threads from those stories in this book that I'd completely forgotten and having the backstory fresh in my mind would have helped. I was a little blindsided by how things turned out with Aristo but wouldn't have been if I'd read Shadow's Claim more recently. I was confused by stuff Lothaire, Morgana, and Nereus did or had done in the past because I just hadn't read it recently. The pacing at the end of the book was not as tight as Cole usually writes, and the last 100 pages dragged. But the characters were likeable and their love believable and the antics of Nix always entertain. Another terrific addition to the IAD compendium.
