One word for this book: Tepid.

Kind of wished Feehan didn't rely on the lifemate bond for Riley and Dax to fall in love after a few hours of hanging out together. It would have been nice if they had some real interactions. As a result, their relationship is lukewarm at best. Dax seems too sweet and for someone who has been inside a volcano since the beginning of time, he was sure evolved.

Great things about the book is it featured quite a bit of Gary and Jubal, too of the most interesting characters Feehan has created. I always feel for them though, especially for Gary. It's like the Carpathians feel Gary is good enough to do all the wet work but he will never be good enough to be one of them.

Not the worse book of the series but not the best either. Perhaps my expectations are getting high but it seems like Feehan is getting sick of writing about the Carpathians.

I really had a hard time with this book. Getting into the story. But it was good to see where the characters are in the story and into the next book.
