Many people faced danger and worked hard to make the rugged and open land of the American frontier their home. Some, like Davy Crockett, wound up making history, too.
"I reckon I'd rather take orders from a polecat any day than from Ol' Hickory-face," says Davy Crockett. Yet, he and Georgie Russel have joined the Tennessee Volunteers, under the command of Old Hickory himself, General Andrew Jackson. The Volunteers are gearing up for a battle against the Creek Indians, but Davy hopes somehow to find a peaceful solution before the two sides go to war. As they trek southward, deep into Creek territory, Davy and Georgie must brave bitter cold, bullets, bears, and alligators as the time for battle draws near.
