This is a very revealing book with many small important details of the German side of WW2 and the personal experiences of a soldier that enrich the reading experience. I have read many World War 2 books and certainly enjoyed this one to the utmost. It was always something to look forward to after I had to put it down to do important errands or go to bed. I highly recommend this book, but set aside plenty of time to read it. I'm sure that you will fully enjoy the experience.

Biderman's diary ranks among the best accounts of Second World War
Russian fighting I've ever read. Biderman's descriptions are
borderline poetic, making his descriptions especially vivid.
Curiously absent is any hint the fate of Jews in occupied territory,
of which the author might have known something. But Biderman, and
comrades, become disillusioned with the leadership in Berlin, and
come to recognize that the Nazis are criminally negligent, if not
criminal. "In Deadly Combat" will leave the reader astonished and
amazed what humans can endure.
Also recommended, from the Russian perspective, "The 900 Days: The
Siege Of Leningrad" by Harrison Salisbury.
Also recommended, the podcasts of Dan Carlin (http://

"Ghosts of the Ostfront" in riveting form.
