Oliphant/Orde/Tepper (she writes under all these names) is a wonderful writer; whatever she writes, I enjoy, including mysteries and science fiction. Her stories and her characters have heart and a good common-sense feel about them. They're interesting and easy to relate to. I read this one a long time ago, but still have the pleasant feeling of being satisfied and warmed from having read it.

Oliphant (who is also A. J. Orde and Sheri S. Tepper) has a real winner in this groups of characters, the Santa Fe guest ranch locale, and lots of cosy deduction. Who was that mystery guest, the one with no wallet or i.d., who died without checking out? The innkeeper and her family are ready to dig out the truth.
