Well, it started out kinda cute & I thought I was going to like it, but not.... the dialogue became so tiresome and there was one "arguement" scene between the main character and a Godess that was so inane & just pointless where they called each other "stupid white girl" and "dipwad" AARRGG!! I suppose it was meant to be funny but it was really witless. It just seemed to go downhill from there. The main character is the daughter of the Grim Reaper and took a "forgetting spell" so she could live a normal life until her father is kidnapped & the forgetting spell is removed so she can be the temp. Grim Reaper while they try to locate her sister & her father. The concept was promising but the story failed to deliver.

Okay, I read the back of this book and decided to give this book a try. It had an interesting premise.

I got about twenty pages into the book. Her mom is immortal through a complicated process but all immortals have a weakness, an Achilles heel if you like. Her mom's weakness? The thing that nearly killed her? Her husband snoring next to her in bed.

Yes, she is immortal ONLY if no one snores around her. So if you were in a fight with her, fake snore, voila, You win!

I just put the book down. That's a little further than I like suspending my disbelief.

I thought that this book was good. It had an interesting storyline and interesting characters in it. Knowing that this is a first book in a series, I know that things need to be explained to the reader and a clueless character is usually how the author does this. But I found that Callie was a little to clueless for my tastes. There are times I just wanted to jump into the book and smack her with something. I am hoping that her character matures as the series continues.

I wanted to enjoy this book, but I just can't get into the bumbling shopaholic "hero" who stumbles along through the whole book, whining or blubbering. A little more maturity and not talking like a gum-snapping teen would've made this book so much more enjoyable. I might give any following book a try, but only on swap.

Wow...so the first chapter has revealed Calliope to be a forgetful space case, a bit spastic, super over-reactive, and a somewhat snobby weightest. Great. And good grief, the italics!! I mean really? Does there have to be an italicized word in every single paragraph? I get it, you are trying to emphasize, but when you emphasize every single sentence it makes everything seem unimportant - an annoying. A bunch of other reviews say that once you get past the first few chapters though and it's worth it, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Page 50...or there about...More wow, so Callie's mom, also immortal thanks to her love for Death, has the more ridiculous weakness I have ever heard of. Apparently all immortals have some sort of Achilles heel, and her's is her husbands snoring. YES, you read that right. Death's snoring is causing his wife to slowly die. WTF? Oh, and apparently she is also the most beautiful woman on the planet as she is a DIRECT descendant of Helen of Troy. Again...WTF? Oh and Callie nearly rapes a man she just met. Yeah...I don't know how much more of this book I will read but I have a feeling I won't be making it to the end.

I quit.I just cannot finish this book. Callie is one of the worst characters I have ever had to suffer through, and she is just not worth it to force myself to finish this book. 6 Chapters was more than enough thank you. She is whiny, annoying, selfish, spineless, helpless, speaks like a 8th grader (did she really have to pull the "NOT" card and call someone a 'jerkizoid'?), drops brand names like a fashion Nazi, and is just overall self-centered. It had such an amazing premise but failed big time.

AWEFUL book! Calliope is a twit and acts like a teenage girl. She is literally Death's daughter and is such an airhead. There really aren't any likeable characters in the entire book...except maybe Daniel, her rival for the CEO position at Death, Inc. At least he has personality and chutzpah. All in all, just not a good book. The premise sounds rather interesting but the novel just falls short.

I have to say that I have never liked a character less than I do Calliope Reaper-Jones. She's whiny and unlikeable, and when she isn't whining or crying, she's in a state of drooling lust after every male she encounters. I didn't finish the book.

I knew from reading the back of the book that this was a read for fun book without the dark underbelly of many paranormals. I enjoyed the cluelessness and some of the goofy scenes in the story as a break from the norm. I'm actually looking forward to the next one:) The "romance" isn't much but I'm hoping to see Daniel in a follow up story.

I didn't even realize that the author was the actress who played Tara on Buffy and she has co-authored with Christopher Golden. Overall I have to say I did not waste my money on this book and would buy the next one should it come along.

I tried to like it, I really did. The dialogue was too "valley girl" and it was a little too fluffy over all for me.

Horrible, waste of time. She put a spell on herself to forget she was "Death's Daughter." EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Low self-esteem and VERY Big lack of imagination. Oh, Amber, you disappoint, after hanging out with Buffy ans Spike all those years. Please don't write a Sequel, spare us.

I thought this book was a lot of fun! Unique story line...at least, it wasn't one that I had encountered ever before. I really enjoyed the dialogue... it was funny, real, and easy flowing. I thought that the way she combined the various belief systems was ingenius! I can't wait for her next book to come out.

This was a fun, light read. The book is narrated by the main character Calliope and the tone is really chatty and friendly. It gives you a good sense of her personality right from the very first page. She's sweet, well-meaning, and dedicated, but she's not the brightest or the most ambitious girl around. And that's okay. It's kind of a nice break from the usual tough-as-nails, hyper-competent, tortured kind of female protagonists that are so common in this genre (not that I don't like that too!). The world Calliope inhabits is a fun mish-mash of elements from all kinds of mythologies.

If you're looking for a fun bit of fluff that you can breeze through pretty quickly, this would be a good book to choose.

This is a really cool series. Hard to believe Amber Benson used to star on Buffy!
