Why is Katherine by Anya Seton so hard to find?? I've been wanting to read this book for months and months!! I can't find a used copy of it anywhere! I've checked several used book shops, and none of them had copies. I've had the book on my wish list here (several different ISBN #s), but the WL lines never seem to get shorter for this book. It must either be hard to find, or it's really a good book -- or both. lol. I guess this is a book I'm going to have to buy new on Amazon. They do have a paperback version for about $10. There were some used copies listed, but you never know what you're getting so I don't order used books over Amazon. I guess next time hubby makes an Amazon order I'll have to add in the book....who knows how long that might be. Maybe before then I'll get lucky and my WL will produce a copy. Anyone read this book??? Is it really good???

I have managed to get two copies from the Damaged Books section of the Bazaar, one for me and one for my sister. Try watching closely in there and other such threads around the Bazaar. I wanted the book really badly too and managed to get a PB and a HC version.
Another good idea, Buy.com has a special right now. If you spend $10 you get $10 off using Google checkout, plus, if you spend $25 you get the $10 off plus free shipping. They have Katherine for $9.16. Search around for another book or two to bring your total to $25 and you'll get two or three NEW books for only $15. That is pretty much the same price you would be paying for the book new plus shipping an Amazon!
Also, eCampus.com has a coupon for $5 off a $5 order and they have Katherine for $10.49. You will not get free shipping, but the book would still only be about $8 or $9 with the coupon code HIGH5 . Last Edited on: 9/10/07 9:50 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Now this makes me feel bad. I've had this book on my TBR pile for over a year. My copy is really old and worn (ex-library) but I may post it as a freebie in the near future. I'll make a point to read it very soon! |

I'd be careful with Buy.com they wouldn't let me do the free shipping deal with the Google checkout deal, I tried umpteen times. I placed an order anyways, 9 days ago, and haven't even heard anything from them yet. Have you looked at Bookcloseouts.com for Anya Seton? |

Weird, just got my mail and I got my Buy.com order! Maybe I need to moan and groan earlier about things! :P It wasn't looking promising as everytime I clicked on the tracking link it repeatedly said it hadn't been shipped yet, even as late as last night. Kooky. |

I have Katherine on my TBR too. I feel badly. I will have to get to it soon to put you katherine-less members out of your misery. I have to find more time to read these days. Work is just so busy and I have had family health issues distracting me. I have books piling up even more than usual. It doesn't stop me from ordering more tho. It's like a sickness. Need. More. Books. Always. |

Oh, you guys!! Katherine is one of my very favorites - have a box of kleenex near by when you read it. I've read it several times over the years and lent it out many times and everyone has the same reaction to it, even if they are not historical fiction fans. Put away all your other TBR's till you read this one, you won't regret it! BTW, I've found a couple of copies at thrift shops here and there, always very, very used and beat up, but I buy them anyway because it is quite rare and looks like always read to bits - literally - ha ha. Anya Seton is a marvellous writer, all of her books are great. If I had a spare Katherine now I'd offer it, but I don't. Cheers, Margaret |

I just realized that I too have Katherine! Mine is good copy, older but definitely postable. I got it with 5 other Anya Seton books awhile ago on Ebay, and completely forgot I had it until I just checked! I will read it this week and post it, but would like one of you who really wants to read it now to have it! |

A sweetie pie wonderful PBS member sent me her copy of Katherine. I was SOOOOO happy to get this book!!!! I can't get over how nice it was of her to send it to me!!! I'm going to start reading it today. When I'm finished, I will pass it on. There are a couple things that make it nonpostable, so I'll pass forward the kindness and send it on with no credits involved. I'm so excited! I've been wanting to read this book for MONTHS!!! Give me a few days to get it read, and then I'll pass it on to someone else who posted here about wanting to read it. :) Hugs! Juli |

Well... Now I feel kinda bad. I happen to have a copy of this book. Unlike so many here, I read it a while back and thought it was just "all right". I'd post my copy, but unfortunately it's unpostable. It's an old hardcover with a small break in the spine. I'm new to this site. Maybe someone here can give me a way around this? |

Hi Cloi,
I saw your post about the nonpostable book Katherine by Ana Seton. I was wondering if I ordered a book from your shelf, would you send the unpostable Katherine as a freebie?
The book that I am thinking of ordering is: The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of The Oxford English Dictionary. Send me a personal message if you think that you might be interested in this deal.

Katherine is a marvelous book. I read it in 1976 or 1977 and I remember that I read it (it's a long book) in 2 days, up until 3 am one day and up until 4:00 am the next. Fortunately I wasn't yet working and it was summertime and so didn't totally screw things up. It's so hard to find because it was out of print for many many years, so many that the available book supply dried up and fell apart! |
