The victim had been sure someone was hounding her as her double, perhaps an unfriendly spirit. Tessa, almost alone in her belief in murder, annoys a lot of people in the village as she keeps prying. However, the author winds up this mystery with a neat twist; 3: Death after breakfast by Hugh Pentecost (1978): Pierre Chambrun, well known manager and absolute monarch of the Beaumont Hotel in New York, didn't turn up for breakfast one morning. This unheard of event starts a massive search of the hotel until the search of one room uncovers a murdered woman. She turns out to be an old friend of Chambrun's, a permanent resident whose friendship dates from his French resistance past. The staff, though worried sick, attempts to follow Chambrun's constantly repeated order in any crisis: "We have a hotel to run". So all the myriad activities of the famous Beaumont Hotel proceeded, but what had happened to its Pierre Chambrun?« less
