Din Dan Don It's Christmas Author:Janina Domanska Din Dan Don, It's Christmas is based on an old Polish carol, though this rendition is in English. — The carol itself is a simple one. A procession of various birds play instruments or sing, as birds and people wend their way to the Christ Child's creche, until Baby Jesus wakes from his manger bed. The goose plays the pipes, the rooster blows a ho... more »rn, etc. The repeating line is always "Din Dan Don"--which is evocative of bells ringing or music playing and used rather like "Fa, la, la" would be used. The text is actually very short; for every two pages with text, there are two pages with only images. Janina Domanska's images add to the story by creating a marvelous procession of birds and people who are headed to the creche.
Domanska has used a stained-glass art style with jewel tone colors that are bright and vivid. With thick black outlines the illustrator evokes the illusion that the reader is gazing at stained glass images, and pulls us back in time to another century.
An unusual and obscure Christmas title--perfect for someone who knows and loves this carol and may want to share it with their children.« less
