I LOVED this book.  I'm wondering if any of you have read it recently that really liked it.  A lot of people reviewing it said they were disappointed, which is why I'm curious.  I found this difficult to put down.  I thought it was extremely well written and had a great story.  I couldn't stop to find out what happened!  Written by the same author as "The Horse Whisperer."  I just posted a hardcover to my shelf if anyone is interested.  Just curious on reviews and thoughts.

Another good Nicholas Sparks book is The Smoke Jumper and I haven't read it but The Horse Whisper.

Oopppps, you mean Nicholas Evans, not Sparks!

I read the Divide and really liked it.  It was the first Evans book I read and I thought it was a good read.  After I finished it I read the Horse Whisperer thinking I would like it too, but I was disappointed.  I agree with you Caryn, I couldnt put the Divide down either!  I was super curious about what would happen to the daughter!

I thought "The Horse Whisperer" was a terribly written book, so have avoided Evans since.

I wonder if people that didn't like "The Horse Whisperer" would like "The Divide" much better and vice versa?  Maybe so many people who loved "The Horse Whisperer" were disappointed in "The Divide?"  It just seems like the critics really didn't like the book but I know I was pleasantly surprised.

So far just those two.  I have Smoke Jumper and The Loop in my TBR pile.

I have read all four of his books. The Smoke Jumper and The Loop were my two favorite. I liked The Divide least - the premise seemed good but it lacked depth IMHO.

I am thinking about possibly reading the smoke jumper...but it is about a firefighter right?  My husband is a firefighter in NYC and I get a bit nervous to read books about firefighters!

Sheila, I completely agree with you.  I like Nicholas Evans, and I like them in exactly the order you listed them.

Nicole, yes, The Smoke Jumper is about a firefighter, but it's very different from a firefighter in NYC, so maybe you would feel detached enough to enjoy it.  ;)
