In Chapter 11 it is noted that "Rutledge wasn't keen on coincidences." But it seems the authors are and the book starts off with a whopper. (As do other Rutledge books.) The writing is as fluid as ever, although it goes on a bit too long. And as before, poor Ian spends most of his time driving around sleep deprived. References to past happenings in his life are confusing unless you've been reading these books one after the other. Most distressing, however, is the resurgence of Hamish, which prevents Ian from appearing to talk to himself (sort of.)
