He didn't weaken and die. On a steady diet of dog's milk, he flourished. His cheeks took on a ruddy glow, and his limbs grew brown and sturdy in the summern.

A boy is born on a bare hillside near the end of the Dry Time. Raised by dogs on the outskirts of human civilization, he becomes a creature of the wilds. To the poor villagers, he hardly appears human at all, and they reject him. Yet the dogboy, as he is called, is a survivor. Coerced by the glitter of a bigger city and the greed of others, he comes to believe that he is destined by be a great shaman.

From a master writer comes a compelling fantasy novel about a boy's strange and perilious journey to manhood. Dogboy questions who we are, how we relate to the natural world, and what it is that truly makes us human.
