to weed out inactive members...lol

I requested a book and today it's on it's fourth member!  Good thing I'm not on pins and needles awaiting it's arrival.  No problem it just helps me shovel a few off Mt TBR.

I'm always amazed when I see that there are over 3 million books posted....and none of them are the ones I'm looking for!

I'm on that streak, too.  The last 3 books I ordered (that had numerous copies in the system) went thru so many members that I went out and bought 2 of the books.

I'm on the opposite side of the problem. I have a wish list book listed that has had the request in the system time out without a response from the would-be owners three times already. Very annoying.

Whichever side of this we're on - it only helps to clear them out.  Not much comfort - but it's a good thing just the same!

I had a wish list book go through the entire list of people wanting it without one of them taking it so now it isn't wish listed any longer! I made myself read it just to get it gone, very frustrating!!

Oh, I had one of those too.  I went though three requestors before the book went to a new home and another went through two.

Susan, you're right over three million books and I can't get two that I've requested.  I have a feeling that one of them is going to be going to another person, drat!

As of a few seconds ago the number of UNIQUE  titles available on PBS was 518, 270.  So although there may be over 3 million books available - they aren't all different titles.  Too bad!  What a big WL PBS would be if there were 3million unique books (titles) I could get !  ;D

Believe it or not the book that is on it's fourth member camethisclose to being turned down!  I got a pm about it and it'll be on it's way to my house this week.  I think the other is going to time out.

I put up a few books, and its like on the 3rd person down the line ( I guess the other 2 didn't want the book anymore)! I have a whole bunch of wishlists books to put so I'm hoping a few people buy some of my books so I can put up all the new ones. Don't like to have too many on my shelf at once so I'm waiting patiently LOL

Of course, sometimes it could be that the person who had it on their wish list just didn't have any credits at the time and was waiting for a credit to come in and alas when it didn't they got timed out.  (hmmm..wonder how many have had that happen?)

Would it be better to pm the person saying they are waiting on a credit or just let it time out?

Well, I personally have never had that happen. Early on before I got many credits, I would buy a few to cover the time til my credits came in. A lot of people say they can't afford to buy credits--well, the cost of a credit isn't that much more than the cost to send a book out to get a credit, especially if you get them at a discount from another member in the book bazaar.

If you don't have a credit, what good would PMing the sender do? Until you accept the order, they can't do anything, and if you don't accept, it will move to the next person in line.

If you're pretty sure you won't be getting a credit within 48 hours and don't want to buy credits, just decline the request so it can move on to the next person. If you don't have a credit, don't plan to buy any, but have a book on the way to someone that might arrive within the next two days, then wait it out and hope for the best. It's frustrating to the poster of the book, but someone will request it eventually.

It always amazes me to see (for example) people with 60 books wishlisted, 10 books (all books that have hundreds of copies in the system) on their shelf asking to 'borrow a credit' as one of their wishlisted books came up. Now why would you have 60 books wishlisted if you have no credits and no intention to buy any, and there's not much hope that one of your books will get requested for a few weeks at least?? The wishlist is supposed to be for books you really want and intend to order if it comes available to you.
