Basically, chick lit is a form of contemporary fiction that touches on all aspects of a woman's life, including friendship, romance, career, and family. Many involve women in their 20s and they often have a humorous aspect.

They may contain romance, but they are different from romance novels in that the plot is broader than the love story.
