Near Legendary outlaw Clabe Donovan was shot point blank in the face with a shotgun during a jail break years ago.
Now, those that had to do with his capture and conviction are turning up murdered along with a note indicating that Donovan is back with revenge on his mind.
It's up to Sheriff Web Matlock to solve the case and capture the killer. Not only is it hurting his town but it is messing up his wedding plans. Matlock is engaged to Donovan's widow.
This is another great one from my new favorite author. Elmer Kelton writes westerns with deep characterizations . And his stories ring with the authenticity you feel when you say to yourself "This is really like it probably was" .
