Great summer read. If you have seen the classic movie, you will be pleasently suprised at how different the final challenges and finish to this book are. Plus, Fleming is a great prose stylist in the pulp tradition. For example, as Bond sits on a patio with drink in hand, watching the Jamacian sunset, it is described as," the sun falling beautifully into its grave." That is a simple and effective way to remind the reader that the island is a attractive but deadly place for the agent. Finally, the character of James Bond is often thought of as a stereo-type in the popular mind. Here we see that Fleming considers him a sensualist. Bond lives in the here and now; he enjoys the night air, the food, and a good drink, all before moving out to kill or be killed. In total, this is a fun weekend read with much to offer the reader looking for a thriller.
