Lord Winter, a military "hero" who has been cast out of the army in disgrace, wanders to the Middle East in search of a precious Arabian mare. He discovers Zenia, the daughter of the famous Esther Stanhope, who has disguised herself as a young boy.

Lord Winter is a survivalist--his morals are dependent upon the situation at hand--as long as he can come out alive at the end.

Eventually they must learn how to live together, even worse, they must learn how to live together in lush Engalnd, rather than the desert, where each of them is more comfortable.

Laura Kinsale writes excellent books.

One of my favorite books from Laura Kinsale! From the back cover:

"A man of cool demeanor and stubborn solitude, Lord Winter was a restless wanderer who kept the passions of his heart well hidden. But now, traveling alone in search of a legendary mare known as String of Pearls, he has discovered a far more precious gem. For hidden beneath the ragged costume of a Bedouin boy was a remarkable woman: Zenia Stanhope, daughter of the extraordinary English adventuress known as the Queen of the Desert. Zenia wants nothing of the dangerous adventuring that Lord Winter lives for. She wants only to reach England, far from the blood and sand of the desert. But in one night of terror, condemned to death, their lives are irrevocably bound by desperate desire...."

Has an unforgettable hero and a great heroine. If you like some history mixed with your romance, you'll love this!

It is a little torn and the corner is somewhat chewed by my son who got ahold of it.
