I dreamed of three red crescents
Triple moons on some distant world
Sparkling ruby jewels set in a salmon-colored sky

My dream is of tomorrow
A far-off happy future — when humans
Fly swiftly from world to world and star to star

Pain intrudes upon my dreaming
Fists are clenched in sudden anger
Eyes awake and slowly focus on my own hand

What I dreamt was mundane vision
Three red crescents: my own digits,
Fingernails sharply digging into my open palm.

Don't know how to approach this one; so to recap, the damage done in real world, caused by a great stress or tension, is interpreted in the dream world, ie by the unconscious, as a hopeful tomorrow? Or is it that the dreamer is bringing self back to the real world and grinding down any false hope in the reality of present pain?
