Dreams and Swords is a collection of lesbian short stories that are all pretty good with one shining star... O Captain, My Captain. This 59 page erotic novella is in my opinion one of her best to date making this a must read.

Dreams and Swords is a wonderful sampler of Katherine Forrest's writing. The short stories (one is the initial chapter of a novel) range from her well-known mysteries to science fiction. All held this reader's interest; many demanded a re-read or two.

Each story involves at least one lesbian character. In many of the stories, however, the gender orientation of the characters is simply a fact, not the focus of the story.

Readers of Forrest's novels will be delighted to recognize familiar characters. They will also, of course, be delighted to meet new characters. In Dreams and Swords, Katherine Forrest shows her skill with the short story genre matches that of her novel writing.

This collection of short stories is a must read for one reason: the central novella, "Oh Captain My Captain." I liked the other stories, but this story is simply delicious. A young startrooper signs on for a deep space voyage with the mysterious Captain Drake, who has...needs. The needs are fulfilled in Zero G and just about every other place on the ship...except in the Captain's quarters where the secret to Drake's nature is hidden. I think this may be Katherine Forrest's most erotic writing.
