This book is an exercise in torture. What's really astonishing is after the first (horrible) three chapters, I kept inflicting this text on myself. The story itself is not bad, but it is bogged down by inconsistent rambling thoughts of the protagonist. It is safe to say Mr. McGuane's editor fell down on the job.
