This was an adventure and a great deal of fun. A duke and an earl had a decades-long competition and feud. When the earl died, he offered the duke something his family had wanted for many years -- an original manuscript. The only catch was that the duke had to take his daughter as his ward (until her marriage). The earl was smart because he must have realized that his heir would not take good care of his daughter, Emma. Duke Peter had the resources to make sure Emma made a good match.

Before long, Peter is shot in his own home, and he looks for the culprit. Unfortunately, the list of enemies is long. It may also include Emma, horrified that she had to reside with the Duke and his mother. This was most enjoyable.
