Lord Berkeley and Harriet easily outshined the side plots, and their emotional conflicts, realistic and moving, coaxed the occasional tears from this romantic heart. Nothing tugs my heartstrings more than an ignored, plain heroine, forever in her sister's shadow, and a hero who opens his eyes and heart to fully recognize her hidden beauty. This is why I love romance novels. (Well, this and all the sexy bits, of course.) Such is the power of romantic love. *sigh* Harriet's parents were especially atrocious and deserved the humiliation they got, but I was disappointed that certain elements such as her parent's private tragedy and the suspicious death of Berkley's wife were not explored more fully. 3.5 stars.
