This was my first book by Ann Shorey and I have to say it was a great read. I couldn't put it down, even when I should have been studying. I will definitely be looking for others by her.

This was another new author for me. Great beginning to this series. Molly is left a widow with 3 young children and another on the way. Circumstances compel her to leave and make a new beginning. She endures childbirth and loss on the journey. Story also includes slavery and the underground railroad.

This was a very good story, but so much sorrow for one heroine! The next book I read will have to be a light comedy!

This is a story of a woman fighting to make a way for her family at a time when the easier thing for a new widow was to remarry. Molly chooses instead to forge ahead using her skills to find a way to emotionally, physically, and spritually take care of her family with not only one, but two, tragedies happening close together. The theme of free/slave states adds another layer to the story making you want to read the NEXT book in this series to see how those characters develop and that theme is followed.
