TO ELECTION OFFICERS: This pamphlet contains so much of the Election Law as relates to the duties of inspectors, poll and ballot clerks appointed to conduct elections in the city and county of New York for the year 1895. It is imperatively required that such officers shall make themselves familiar with the various sections of the law contained herein -- particularly as regards their conduct on days of registration and election; this they should do to avoid criminal charges and possible conviction for violation of law: "A public officer who omits, refuses or neglects to perform any act required of him by the election law is, if not otherwise provided by law, punishable by imprisonment for not more than three years, or by a fine of not more than three thousand dollars or both." (Penal Code, §41j, page 103.) Particular attention is called to the following sections, to wit: §13. Pay of Election Officers. -- " No payment shall be made to any person as an Inspector of Election, Poll clerk or Ballot clerk who shall not have fully complied with all the requirements of law in any wise relating to his duties." §17. Voting Booths and Guard-Bails. -- Thearrangement of the polling - place fittings will be made under direction of the Bureau of Elections before the opening of the polls and should not be altered or changed excepting in accordance with the requirements of law.
