An assortment of short stories beyond the relhm of any kind of reality. It's what makes this such an enjoyable read. Often hilarious, most often deadpan, constantly entertaining. Read only in doses or gorging oneself all at once, The Elephant Vanishes leaves one quite satisfied. I loved it.

Short stories from an amazing writer. In general, I prefer his novels, but the stories make a good introduction to his work. Often described as charming and haunting, Murakami's writing is clear and beautiful while his plots are quirky mixtures of the surreal and the mundane. A must read for anyone interested in Japanese culture.
