Buddhist practices have become EXTREMELY POPULAR in the mental health community these days, and well as the concept of peace and contentment vs. the flashier alternative, "happiness". The author follows this trend in his book, with an interesting spin: he is a psychoanalyst (the Freudian approach--very intensive psychotherapy), and he compares Buddhist practices to psychoanalysis. As a practicing Buddhist I found the book a bit confusing (you can only put so many different spins on your practice before you tie yourself up in knots), but if the reader is approaching Buddhist practice as an initiate, or if the reader is in the mental health professions, this book is an excellent and practical guide to using Buddhist PRACTICE (vs. Buddhism as a faith) to improve the reader's approach to handling the bumps and ruts in the road of life.
