Just finish all of the The Engines of God series by Jack McDevitt, great books.

I've just started Omega... the fact that the main character has shifted to a management position has kind of dulled the book for me so far...

Indeed, but she comes back in play and your find all the books well worth reading. I wish the series will continue beyond the Cauldron book.
