Interesting, although he only covers half of the Europeans by population (chapters on Germans, French, British, Italians and Dutch, also includes a chapter on the US). He basically writes the history of the country and their relations with other countries, which went through a huge change 5 years after the book was written. He basically has a cold warrior view of the world, that seems a bit quaint, now.

Barzini's sense of European history is intimate and yet grand, encompassing, effortless. He is perceptive and witty, with a ready fund of anecdotes and a good sense of history.
