I love this simple book on American classics. This book includes recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. The recipes contain few ingredients and straight forward directions, so that even a newbie at cooking (like I was) can use them.

Here are some examples of recipes you can find in this book: omelettes, french toast, pancakes, soups, salads, coleslaw, meatloaf, pot roast, brisket, mac & cheese, casseroles, and mashed potatoes. The desserts include lots of different pies, including fresh fruit pies and cream pies. The are recipes for several kinds of cake included angel food, strawberry shortcake, and cheesecake. Of course, it includes tons of recipes for cookies. And at the end there are a few special treats: Chocolate souffles, apple dumplings, banana foster, and chocolate covered strawberries.
