Ok so I know when you go on vacation hold your books on your shelf and WL continue to move up FIFO. YOu just get skipped if you are at the top and still on hold. Does that work for books you post while on hold? I'm asking because I'm trying to trim down my TBR. So my shelf is on hold to stop WL offers. I'd rather pass them on down the line to someone who might be able to get to reading them faster. Anyway I have been reading and posting some heavily posted to PBS books. Are they working their way up FIFO? Or should I unhold my acount for a minute and then rehold it to get them going up the line? |

The help docs say that when you put your shelf on vacation hold, your book will not lose it's place in FIFO. So, I understand that to mean that you will move up in FIFO, but if your book becomes up for a WL, you'll be passed by until you take the hold off.

I wonder if that needs some clarification...I always took that to mean that you are basically stalled in traffic and everything goes around you. You don't move backward per se, but you don't move forward either. Like, if you have the 100th copy of The Pelican Brief in FIFO and you go on hold, you'll stay at #100. You won't go backwards, but as books get chosen, those behind you would jump over you, so that #101 would move to #99 and so on. When you come off hold you haven't lost any spots, but you've not gone ahead either. Same for the WL. But I could be wrong. "Keep your place in FIFO" is a bit ambiguous as it doesn't explain what happens to those around you. Maybe you can ask TPTB, and let us know, Mary? Or, someone who has a few books on the wishlist that move fast could put their account on hold for a few days and NOT put their WL on autorequest, keep those books held....watch how many of those fast-moving books get posted and see if you move up the WL or if you stay at (for example) #32 as you were when you started. No you are supposed to move up the line until you get to the top-then traffic goes around you. My question was does that work for books you post while you are already on hold? Or just books you already had posted? Anyway: I unheld my account for a few minutes to get my newly posted books into circulation-then I went on hold again. |
