Could be considered the third in a trilogy about Alexander, after Fire from Heaven and Persian Boy. This one doesn't hold together very well, since it's the story of what happened after Alexander died, and it's basically multiple tragic stories about not very interesting people.

Third book of the Renault's trilogy based on the life of Alexander the Great; historical fiction at its best

Mary Renault has kept me interested with each of her stories of Alexander and the Greek Heroes. I read each one eagerly and dreaded for the story to end. Funeral Games was quite dark (duh ... I should have seen that coming) and left me sorry that I started it, yet I didn't put it down!
