If you are expecting a typical 'popular history' book, this is probably not for you. Take a look at the reviews on Amazon for in-depth discussion of the plusses and minuses of this book. In short, it is a detailed but un-focused in-depth examination of the lives of virtually every Virginian of importance around the American revolution. Superb account of a time when romanticized visions of the opportunities offered by the New World abounded along with get rich quick ideas - even involving the draining of an enormous swamp to produce more land for planting.
