Julia is nearing the time of her confinement. John Pickett has gone to find some pears that Julia is craving when he is kidnapped and introduced to his grandfather. If that weren't enough, Gentleman Jack (John's criminally-minded father) arrives on Julia's doorstep and wants to see John. He's just arrived from Botany Bay (Australia), where he was sentenced for stealing ten years ago. John, who is still reeling from the meeting with his grandfather, is shocked to see his father in his home. However, he is stunned when the magistrate awakens John to tell him his father is dead.
This is a fabulous series and book. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the stories. I don't recall reading a series that was so good, it kept me coming back for more (twelve times)!
