I found it tiresome and tedious and not at all scary. I'm thinking I just wanted something to happen instead of listening to boring dialogues and having to infer what was going on. I did find some of the writing interesting in its descriptions, but gave up about a third of the way through. (Also many obscure words I didn't know the meaning of. Liked "squarson," though; not sure I'll be able to get it into a sentence I say, however.)
