Went to Good Will today.  Searching through the hardcover's I found Voyager by Diane Gabaldon.  Woohoo.  Opened it and it smelled musty so I took the cover off and there was mold on the jacket and the front and spine of the book.  Put it back on the shelf.  I then found Outlander.  Woohoo.  Opened, musty smell, same moldy jacket and spine.  Put it back on shelf.

Hubby came over and, since he's in a wheelchair, he's lower to the ground (that may sound mean but it's true...right?) and starts looking at the books on the lower shelves.  He pulls a book out from a lower shelf and ask if I want it.  I look.  It's ANOTHER copy of Voyager but in premium condition.  Woohoo.  A few minutes later he pulls out another book.  The Fiery Cross in premium condition.  Woohoo.  Got them both for $4...total.

Moral of the story:

Look on the lower shelves.  LOL

Anyone else have a find of a lifetime?

At a local UBS there were ex-lib HC copies of some of Loretta Chase's books - they were in excellent shape and $1.50 each. Chase HCs are among my prized book possessions.

Back in the '90s book buddies and I would spend most Saturdays travelling around to the used book stores in the state and whenever one of us would find a gem the finder would shout out a big "woo-hoo!!!!". Once found in pristine shape three Linda Howards - on the next-to-bottom row. I never even told my book buddies I'd found them til much later; I'd have been hijacket for sure. She's still a big favorite of mine.

But don't ask about my "multiple copies' fetish for some books.......

Congratulations on your finds - I know the fun and joy. It's awesome.

I found Eat Pray Love in a mint condition hardback at the thrift store for .50.  There were around 300 people looking for it here.

At the FOL sale in Feb I found 10 WL audiobooks for .50 each.

I found a like new copy of Winter Garden by Adele Ashworth on eBay grouped with a bunch of other historical romances in an auction and I got it all for 8 bucks including shipping. Not even a crease on the spine. The cheapest copy on Amazon for that book is $20 for an "acceptable" condition used copy. It was quite a steal.

A set of mint condition Marsha Canham books - including The Wind & The Sea - for $16 total on ebay, a copy of Indigo Blue by Catherine Anderson for 35 cents and a copy of The Windflower by Laura London for 20 cents at my local thrift store.  Several very nice OOP Maggie Osborne hardcovers for $1 each and two complete fantasy series in hardcover - The Belgariad & The Mallorean by David Eddings for my hubby for $6 (OOP and very expensive to buy), both at the thrift store, and at that same store, I found a couple of hardcovers from the Outlander series for $1 each - which I posted for one of the ladies here (I already have a set in paperback).  My thrift store is just a few blocks from my house and it can be a veritable gold mine for rare books.  I also have found plenty of rare ones at out local FOL sales for about 50 cents each.  Some rare Mary Balogh, bunches of WL erotica books, etc.  There's one coming up next month & I can't wait:P

Finding the Windflower was a good find. I was looking that up online just today and couldn't find it for less than $20.

I have first edition hard cover copies of the whole Outlander series in great condition.  I think I paid maybe $8 total for the whole set by finding them at used book sales through the years.

I also bought a really unique looking set of Shakespeare works in German with gold on the edges.  I just thought thought they would look nice on my bookshelf.  I paid $5 and I found out recently that they are selling for close to $200 each and I have 6.   They were published in the mid-1800s.

It is fun to find books :-)

I once found a big box lot of books on Ebay with a copy of Sizzle by Jennifer Crusie in it.  Seller didn't know what they had, that wasn't listed in the auction title at all, just in the jumble of books listed in the lot.  I got the whole box lot for like $10.  Pulled out the Crusie book and sold it for over $20.  I love free books and a profit too!

I found on Ebay the hard cover with dust jacket Texas Trilogy Series by Lorraine Heath for $8 and at the FOL sale The Christmas Promise by Balogh for 25 cents. I saw where someone has the Balogh listed for $55.

Back when I first joined I found a hardcover Mary Balogh at Half-price books.  It was $3 so not super cheap. But obviously whoever checked it in didn't know what they had. It was one of her older out of print titles with a long WL here.  I could have sold it for $20+ on ebay but I posted it here instead.
