A classic earlier Sutcliffe. One of my keepers. This is one of her best.

I remember reading this when I was in sophomore high, I really enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I actually read the novel twice.

Having read MY ONLY LOVE first, I could hardly wait to find a copy of this book. Boy was I disappointed; the main characters lacked the depth of the second story. In fact, I wasn't wild about either of the main characters Bonnie or Damien.

Bonnie didn't understand the concept of gratitude; Damien saved her and yet she was spiteful and mean-spirited. It was hard to develop much caring for her difficult life when she was so eager to bite the hand that fed her.'

Damien's brooding eventually got to me. I couldn't imagine what either character found to like in the other. When I remember the beauty of MY ONLY LOVE, I find it hard to believe the same author wrote both books. I gave this book a 3.0 because I was able to finish it; mostly I was thankful I could stick with this strange book.

She fled the horrors of a British workhouse, seeking refuge with the dark moody aristocrat. Begrudgingly he sheltered her, fighting the facination of her saucy innocence. But never did he imagine that the filthy urchin could be transformed into a bewitching beauty-a sparkling jewel that would tempt him beyond endurance..forcing his surrender to the exquisite torment of a love that denied all reason.

Humorous, sensuous, tender with high action and drama. Holds the reader breathless to the end.
