What became the 6th Army Group hit the beaches in southern France and fought its way north, through the Vosges Mountains and was the first Allied unit to make it to the Rhine River.

Along the way it had all extremes of fighting: from covering scores of miles a day trying to catch fleeing German armies in southern France and later across the Rhine, to fighting determined German resistance in the Vosges and other areas.

The 6th Army Group was part American and part French. Both played important roles in their own areas of operation and in support of each other.

This is an important book which should be read by anyone deeply interested in Allied military action in the European Theater of Operations; as the role of the 6th Army Group, the Americans and the native French as well as the colonial French forces,is seldom mentioned in most books covering the liberation of Western Europe.
