Book Description:
When fourteen-year-old Kate overhears a conversation at her mother's funeral, she is shocked. Could it be true that she has a grandfather named Tsan, a Cherokee Indian living on Snowbird Mountain? And if she does, why can't she go live with him, now that both her parents are dead?

A determined Kate tracks down her grandfather and, after much persuasion, convinces him to let her live with him for the summer. As Tsan teaches Kate the Indian way of life, she is awed by the harmonious culture and its reverence for nature. Together, Tsan and Kate raise an eaglet orphaned by some ruthless poachers. When the poachers return for more eagles, Tsan and Kate know they must try to save the majestic birds, but at what cost to their lives?

Sandra Markle has written an exciting adventure story that will keep readers turning the pages. As Kate and her grandfather fight to save the eagles, they help each other understand the impornance of family, and together they create a place to call home.
