I did not like this book until it got almost halfway through. Alex Delaware, psychiatrist turned detective, is like a pitbull. He has two consultations with Lauren Teague and then a chance encounter (she's now a stripper) and he's all up in her business. When she turns up missing, he's the one to get the cops moving. The cop in question, is his friend and honestly Alex does more detecting than the cop does. I liked Alex but I just didn't feel anything for the missing Lauren, she had a serious attitude problem and didn't care about anyone but herself.
As the story plays out, with suspect after suspect and Alex's theory after theory, you get a feel for her state of mind and why she is like she is and does what she does. The ending is great and I really didn't see it coming. Oh I figured Alex would get into a tight spot just not who was holding the gun.
