Originally published in 1938, this is supposedly the first book to cover in detail the flight of the major actors of the Confederate government as the Southern war effort collapsed in April 1865.
While I've read some stories about individual members of the government and their adventures in trying to avoid capture by Union troops, this is the best book I've read covering all. The author even covers the actions of many of the Confederate soldiers who escorted the major government officials in their flight.
