This was the first time I read a romance with a hero passing for white and that alone made it a fascinating read because back then not only did blacks and whites NOT mix, it was outright dangerous. So my big question was how did Rhine make it work? An insightful peek into a seemingly biracial romance and the bigotry of the Restoration period. And I'm so glad, too, that the racial issue didn't overwhelm Rhine and Eddy's passionate romance. Good stuff. 3.5 stars
